About Defne Soap Bar — Benefits, Uses & More ▾
Defne Soap Bar is crafted from the oil of the bay laurel tree (Laurus nobilis) — known as "defne" in Turkish — combined with 50% pure olive oil. Bay laurel has been revered in the Mediterranean world since antiquity, from the laurel wreaths of ancient Greece to the hammam traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Its oil is one of the most powerful natural remedies for scalp and skin conditions.
Unlike Aleppo soap (which uses laurel berry oil), Defne soap uses oil extracted from the leaves of the bay laurel tree — a subtler, greener scent with a slightly different set of compounds. The combination with olive oil creates a deeply conditioning bar that excels especially as a shampoo bar.
Defne Soap Benefits
- Exceptional for dandruff and scalp issues: Bay laurel leaf oil's antifungal and antiseptic properties target the root cause of dandruff, flaky scalp, and seborrheic dermatitis.
- Supports hair growth: Traditional use and modern herbalism both point to laurel oil as a stimulant for scalp circulation — helping combat thinning and hair loss.
- Anti-eczema and anti-psoriasis: Anti-inflammatory compounds in laurel oil help calm and reduce the appearance of chronic skin flare-ups.
- Balances oily skin and hair: Regulates sebum production without stripping moisture — perfect for combination and oily scalp types.
- Natural antibacterial: Safe for acne-prone skin, body, and face.
How to Use as a Shampoo Bar
Wet hair thoroughly. Rub the bar directly onto the scalp and work into a lather, or lather between palms first and apply. Massage into scalp for 1–2 minutes. Rinse well. For best results, follow with a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse (1 tbsp per cup of water) to restore scalp pH. Use 2–3 times per week initially.
100% natural. Vegan. No synthetic fragrances. No parabens. Handcrafted in Turkey.
